07 Apr 2020 : Diary ethics

Yesterday I posted a diary entry about Boris Johnson and his reputation for being workshy. Within hours of posting the entry it was announced that he had been taken into hospital, and later that he had been moved into intensive care.

Today I've been wondering whether to go back and edit or remove that entry, which now feels much more mean-spirited than it did at the time I posted it.

In the end, I've decided not to. Not because I have no qualms about its appropriateness in the light of the news that followed it, but rather because it doesn't seem right to go back and re-write your previous diary entries. It somehow feels like cheating.

Whatever my political disagreements with him, I do hope he gets better soon.
